Pea milk: Is it the milk of the future?
Pea milk — is it the milk of the future?
Cow’s milk has been consumed for thousands of years, touted as a healthy drink for strong bones and healthy growth. However, recently is has been the subject of controversy, as the proof of milk’s health benefits is lacking.
“It is nature’s perfect food but only if you are a calf. The evidence of its benefits is overstated, and the evidence of its harm to human populations is increasing,”states Dr. Mark Hyman, one of America’s leading doctors and health physicians.
In comes pea milk.
Ripple Foods is the company that makes this new milk. They are made from a non-GMO pea protein, yellow split peas to be exact.
Ripple is getting ready for national distribution to Whole Foods and Target stores starting in July.
The startup company, Ripple Foods, is based in San Francisco, one of the hubs of healthy living in the entire world. The new pea milk has eight times the protein of almond milk, half the sugar, and 50 percent more calcium than cow’s milk, Veg News reports.
“We find that people that are dairy milk drinkers really like it, and alternative-dairy drinkers love it,” Ripple developer Neil Renninger said. “We’ve probably had a couple of thousand people try it, and the reception has been very good.”
The line contains the following flavors: Original, Original Unsweetened, Vanilla, and Chocolate Flavors.
They all contain 32 milligrams of omega-3 fatty acids, and are dairy, soy and nut free, which also makes them great for people who suffer allergies from any of these foods.
