- Hyperthyroidism is a condition in which the thyroid gland produces excessive amounts of the free thyroid hormones, triiodothyronine (T3) and/or thyroxine (T4). This is the opposite of hypothyroidism. The most common causes for hyperthyroidism are a chronically inflamed thyroid and an autoimmune condition called Graves Disease.

- Avoid the following foods that interfere with thyroid function:
- 1. Gluten containing grains such as wheat, barley, rye, oats, kamut, & spelt Soy products, nuts, eggs, and heavy proteins.
- 2. Nightshades such as eggplant, tomatoes, & onions are not tolerated well.
3. Enriched flour: As a high glycemic food, enriched flour may also disrupt your blood sugar and hormone levels.
- 4. Sugars: Such as cane sugar, high fructose corn syrup and dextrose. They have almost no nutritional value, yet can cause blood sugar spikes.

5. Red meat: It is high in saturated fat. Eating less red meats and more lean protein and plant derived protein such as beans, may reduce hyperthyroidism symptoms.

6. Transfats: Hydrogenated vegetable oil according to the University of Maryland Medical Center, worsen hyperthyroidism symptoms.
FOODS TO EAT:Include anti-inflammatory herbs such as turmeric, ginger and cinnamon in your foods.
