Sesame seeds are better than Tylenol for arthritis

According to the CDC: “Osteoarthritis (OA) is a disease of the entire joint involving the cartilage, joint lining, ligaments, and underlying bone.” These tissues break down and lead to pain and stiffness.

Nutritious foods are some of the best medicines.

An exciting new study from Iran shows that sesame seeds are better than Tylenol for arthritis.

Traditional treatments for osteoarthritis involve NSAID medications, such as ibuprofen and acetaminophen medications (Tylenol). However, these drugs do have risks and can trigger liver problems and so much more.

A study published in American Heart Association’s journal Circulation shows that long-term NSAID increases the risk of heart attack. NSAID use has also been linked to internal bleeding.

The research team’s goal was to find “a complementary treatment to reduce complications and costs.”

The study participants were fifty patients with knee osteoarthritis. They were divided into two groups. One group received 40 grams a day of powdered sesame seeds, and a traditional therapy group, who received 500 mg of Tylenol twice a day in addition to 500 mg of glucosamine once daily.

The results showed significant pain reduction in the sesame seeds group compared to the traditional therapy group. They also conducted two other tests using the Knee Injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score (KOOS) Questionnaire, and the Timed Up and Go (TUG) Test. Both of these tests showed similar results as well.

The great thing about sesame seeds is that they provide other benefits, including vascular and respiratory support, cholesterol-lowering effects, and bone health. They also provide pain relief without the harmful side effects of NSAID’s.

The study showing that sesame seeds are better than Tylenol for arthritis was published in the International Journal of Rheumatic Diseases.
