How to recognize the symptoms of a heart attack

  • Intense pain in the jaw line (Pain in the jaw can wake you from a sound sleep)
  • Nausea and intense sweating
  • Chest discomfort or pain
  • Upper body pain
  • Shortness of breath
  • Lightheadedness
  • Stomach pain
  • Anxiety
  • NOTE: You may never have the first chest pain during the course of a heart attack
  • 60% of people who have a heart attack while they are asleep do not wake up
  • Women should know that not every heart attack symptom is going to be the left arm hurting,
  • Let’s be careful and be aware. The more we know, the better chance we could survive.
  • WARNING: Most heart attacks begin with subtle symptoms — with only discomfort that often is not described as pain. The chest discomfort may come and go. Don’t be tempted to downplay your symptoms or brush them off as indigestion or anxiety.
  • Don’t “tough out” heart attack symptoms for more than five minutes.
  • Call 911 or other emergency medical services for help. If you don’t have access to emergency medical services, have someone drive you to the nearest hospital. Drive yourself only as a last resort, if there are absolutely no other options.
  • A cardiologist says “if everyone gets this, you can be sure that we’ll save at least one life“.
