We have covered so many amazing health benefits of ginger. Could ginger be the key to fighting obesity? Let’s take a closer look.
Ginger is revered for its many medicinal benefits. It came from Southeast Asia, from where it was traded around the world. It is often added to soups, sauces, and stir-fried vegetables to add a nice spicy kick. Ginger is also often used to make a tea.
There are so many reasons to eat ginger.
“Ginger is one spice that I recommend keeping on hand in your kitchen at all times,” says Dr. Joseph Mercola, one of America’s leading physicians and health experts. “Not only is it a wonderful addition to your cooking (especially paired with garlic) but it also has enough medicinal properties to fill several books,” he adds.
Recently, the fat-burning properties of ginger have come into light. Carbohydrate digestion and insulin secretion are just some of the properties that give ginger anti-obesity effects.
Animal studies have shown that ginger reduces inflammation, body weight and blood sugar. Treating these conditions also helps prevent another condition called nonalcoholic fatty liver disease.
TIME weighed in on the studies regarding ginger and obesity: “These studies have suggested that consuming ginger can enhance calorie burn and reduce feelings of hunger, and that it’s associated with weight loss in overweight adults. It’s also been linked to positive changes in cholesterol, blood sugar, blood pressure, inflammatory proteins and liver health.”
Another study from China Agricultural University studied ginger in-depth, and concluded the following: “Ginger and its major constituents exert beneficial effects against obesity, diabetes, [cardiovascular diseases] and related disorders.”
The Chinese study was published in the Annals Of The New York Academy Of Sciences.
