Healthy living is a life style and is about adopting healthy habits. Enjoying the outdoors and listening to music are part of it.
With this in mind, we are happy to share that The sixth annual Outside Lands Music & Arts Festival took place August 9-11 at the historic Golden Gate Park and gathered over 50,000 attendees.
The event, often called “one of America’s best,” was simply enthralling and is fast becoming “the” top festival in the country. A significant portion of every ticket sold went directly to benefit San Francisco’s Recreation and Park Department.
The 2013 music lineup was impressive and included the legendary Mr. Paul McCartney.
“This is so cool,” McCartney told the audience. “I just have to take a minute to take it all in myself, okay?” (He was talking about the act of performing music in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park, but the Beatles have their own history with San Francisco, having performed their last full concert – ever – at the city’s Candlestick Park back in 1966).
With the energy of a 20 year old Sir Paul serenaded the audience for almost 1:45 minutes with “Blackbird,” “Paperback Writer,” and even a song dedicated to his wife Nancy “My Valentine”.
Fans cried, laughed and even found the performance “cathartic”.
On Sunday, Emeli Sande with her crystal pure voice got the audience on its feet and performed some of her top hits including: “Next To Me” and “My Kind of Love”.
Some other performers to add to already impressive list were: The famous Daryl Hall & John Oates, Thao & The Get Down Stay Down, Camper Van Beethoven and so many more….
” There is so much music to take in, I feel like I don’t want to miss any minute and bottle it all up until next year,” shares Nick an attendee.
On the greener side: Outside Lands made efforts to offer healthier food options and surpassed last year’s 200+ food menus and California craft brews.
Outside Lands’ green and sustainable approach must be highlighted and included Ecolands.
Eco Lands has been an example in leading the way with its urban gardening workshops, local community organizations, national NGO’s, a farmer’s market, locally sourced food vendors and a refillable water station.
The festival also made a commitment to reduce waste and offered recyclable options. Green and blue bins were seen everywhere. Other green initiatives include a refillable water program, bike valet and mobile bike shop, farmer’s market to name a few.
We were happy to see Paul Mc Cartney and the Red Hot Chili Peppers perform on the “Panhandle Solar Stage” which was completely powered by alternative and solar energy including all of the sound and lighting.
The event came to a close with a magnetic performance from the Red Hot Chili Peppers. The surreal atmosphere, the impressive acoustics and the endless theatrical light show enforced the exceptional performing talent of the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Attendees left content, capturing in their hearts eternal emotions and echoing music which shall resound in their minds for a long time….
Outside Lands has raised a whopping $6 million for the benefit of the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department. A 2011 economic study reported that the festival generates over $60 million annually to the San Francisco economy.
We can’t wait to see and hear what the festival will come up with next year…
A special thank you to BN Photography for the stellar pictures.
