Ask anyone who has driven a Tesla — it is an experience unlike any other. Since the inception of the company, Tesla has been on the forefront of eco-friendly automobile innovation. Elon Musk, the CEO recently stated that vegan interior is the way to go when it comes to car design.
In January, Tesla unveiled their vegan interior. The company received criticism because though they were considered eco-friendly, they used animal products to create their leather.
Livestock accounts for about 14.5 percent of greenhouse gas emission caused by humans worldwide, so the leather interior was causing more demand for livestock, which further increased emissions.
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, also known as PETA, is a shareholder of Tesla Motors. Last June at the annual company meeting, PETA urged CEO Elon Musk to switch to an entirely vegan interior.
“By offering a 100 percent leather-free car, Tesla is pushing its eco-friendly business even further into the future,” PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman said in a statement. “PETA can now point to Tesla as a source for top-quality vehicles whose cruelty-free seats are as kind to the environment as its engines are.”
In January, Tesla Motors released their first model with the vegan interior in their Model X SUV.
As stated in an article from media platform Veg News:
We hope that eventually, all car manufacturers follow suit.
Climate change is considered by many as the greatest human crisis of our time. By the year 2100, the average earth temperature will increase by 5.8 degrees. While temperatures do fluctuate naturally, the global temperature has increased at a record rate in the past 50 years.
Global warming is caused by carbon dioxide pollution and other air pollution that collects in the atmosphere, and traps the heat form the sun, causing the planet to heat up.
The United States is the single largest culprit of carbon pollution, emitting two billion tons into the air every year.
