Let’s take a look at 5 foods that help fight and prevent ovarian cancer so that you can take healthy steps towards fighting this disease.
According to the Ovarian Cancer National Alliance, “Ovarian cancer is a growth of abnormal malignant cells that begins in the ovaries (women’s reproductive glands that produce ova). Cancer that spreads to the ovaries but originates at another site is not considered ovarian cancer.”
The American Cancer Society reports that about 22,440 women will be diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2017, and 14,070 will die from it this year.
Let’s take a closer look at 5 foods that help fight and prevent ovarian cancer.
1. Cranberries:
Cranberries may stop the spread of ovarian cancer cells, and may even kill malignant cancer cells, according to a study from the International Journal of Oncology.
2. Green tea:
It contains polyphenol compounds, particularly catechins, which are antioxidants and whose biological activities are relevant to cancer prevention.
3. Olive oil:
It contains cancer-fighting polyphenols, which give the oil its unique taste. The stronger the flavor of the oil, the higher the level of its polyphenols. It also has high levels of oleic acid, an anti-cancer fatty acid.
4. Garlic:
It is a good bulb to include in your diet because of key phytochemicals such as allicin. Phytochemicals help with inflammation and remove toxins. Garlic is also high in fiber, and a study from Harvard School of Public Health linked high fiber diets with a lower risk of colon cancer. Garlic is a good source of calcium and fiber.
5. Onions:
Like garlic, onions also contain key phytochemicals including allicin. As stated about garlic phytochemicals help with inflammation and removes toxins.
