5 best tips on how to regulate blood sugar

We are giving you the 5 best tips on how to regulate blood sugar to help you prevent spikes and dips throughout your day.

Diabetes is a group of metabolic diseases in which a person has high blood sugar, either because the pancreas does not produce enough insulin, or because cells do not respond to the insulin that is produced. If you are diabetic, it means that there is an excessive amount of glucose (sugar) in your blood.

According to the American Diabetes Association (ADA): “25.8 million children and adults in the United States 8.3% of the population have diabetes.” If you have diabetes you should make sure to avoid foods that are high in sugar.

Beans and legumes:
One of the most important things to avoid when dealing with diabetes is carbohydrates. According to ADA: “If you eat more carbohydrate than usual, you can expect your blood glucose levels to be higher than usual. Likewise, if you eat less, you can expect your blood glucose levels to be lower.” Beans are low in carbs, and because of their high fiber, they regulate insulin and reduce blood sugar.

Don’t skip meals:
It is important not to skip a meal. Make sure you eat a good breakfast and eat three meals a day to prevent blood sugar from spiking or dipping.

Eat more cinnamon:
Cinnamon has the ability to control blood sugar. A study published American Journal of Clinical Nutrition confirmed that cinnamon sped up the emptying of the stomach, resulting is lower blood sugar after eating. Cinnamon has also shown benefits of persons with type 2 diabetes, by improving insulin response, therefore regulating blood sugar.

Exercise:
Regular exercise can help with weight loss and can increase insulin sensitivity. Sticking to a regular exercise routine can help keep your blood sugar in check.

Eat fish:
While we lack clear proof that diets high in marine omega-3s can prevent or treat diabetes, there is some animal evidence that omega-3s help control blood sugar and ample evidence that omega-3s reduce risk factors for the heart disease that often develops in response to chronic diabetes. And it’s a fact that people who eat a lot of fish—like the Japanese enjoy lower rates of diabetes.
