This brain boosting homemade rosemary soda is a much healthier alternative to sugar packed commercial sodas.

Rosemary is an aromatic herb that has been widely used in Mediterranean cuisine. The leaves are used as a flavoring in foods.

It has a very pleasant flavorful smell and taste.

Legend has it said that rosemary was draped around Greek goddess Aphrodite when she rose from the sea. The Virgin Mary spread her blue cloak over a white-blossomed rosemary bush when she was resting, and the flowers turned blue.

Rosemary became known as the ‘Rose of Mary’.

The evergreen shrub is also known for its healing properties.

Let’s take a closer look at the ingredients in this brain boosting homemade rosemary soda.

Rosemary:
Researchers from Northumbria University in the United Kingdom found that the amount of 1,8-cineole, a main chemical in rosemary oil, in the blood is linked with brain performance. The study published in the journal Therapeutic Advances in Psychopharmacology.

Directions:

Bring the following ingredients to a simmer in a saucepan:

1 tbsp of dried rosemary
3/4 cup of coconut sugar
1 cup of filtered water

Let it simmer for about half an hour, stirring frequently until a syrup is formed
Strain out the rosemary
Add a few spoons of this syrup to a cup of sparkling water
Drink it with ice
