There is a wealth of information on what foods are great for preventing and treating cancer. 1. Alcohol:
Alcohol can contribute to just about every type of cancer. Carcinogenic (cancer-causing) ingredients can make their way into bottles during the fermentation process. A new scientific report released by the American Institute for Cancer Research and the World Cancer Research Fund found that alcohol significantly increases the risk of stomach cancer.
2. Processed meats:
Processed meats are a culprit for many diseases, including cancer. The preservatives, artificial ingredients, and carcinogenic compounds in these meats are detrimental to overall health. The same paper that tied alcohol to stomach cancer also tied processed meats to the same type of cancer. The World Health Organization is close to announcing that processed meats do in fact cause cancer.
3. Microwave popcorn:
What’s a movie night without popcorn? The only problem is that microwave popcorn contains perfluorooctanoic acid, which is a chemical linked to cancers of the kidney, liver, pancreas, bladder, and more. So skip the microwave stuff and go organic. Or better yet, make your own with some organic kernels, olive oil, and salt.
4. Canned foods:
Canned foods are in the crosshairs now because many brands have been found to contain BPA, which has recently been linked to has recently been linked to autism, food intolerance, and may affect fertility. Now, thanks to research from the Environmental Working Group (EWG), consumers can finally be informed of which brands use BPA in their cans. The EWG analyzed 252 popular canned foods brands to find which ones contain BPA-laden epoxy. BPA has been linked to breast cancer.
5. Farm-raised fish:
Speaking of surprising foods that cause cancer, farmed fish shockingly makes the list. Especially because fish has been linked to numerous health benefits, including lower risk of depression, and even lower risk of colon cancer. Farmed fish can contain heavy metals, antibiotics, chemicals, and pesticides that can be carcinogenic. Stick with fresh wild-caught fish whenever possible.
