Sweet surprise: Maple syrup is a cancer fighter
Maple syrup is a cancer fighter, according to new and exciting research from the journal Oncology Reports.
The findings are surprising, as maple syrup is a concentrated source of sugars, and sugars are believed to be a major contributor to cancer. The researchers found that the maple syrup inhibited colon cancer growth.
The study was performed by Japanese researchers, who looked at three different types of maple syrup and their effects on colorectal cancer cells.

Colon cancer is the third most commonly diagnosed cancer and is the second leading cause of death by cancer amongst men and women, according to the Colon Cancer Alliance.
The American Cancer Society estimates 49,190 colon cancer deaths in the U.S. in the year 2016.
