Coffee is a huge part of the American lifestyle, and has lately been the subject of exciting health research. Scientists are just beginning to understand the health benefits of coffee.
It has shown in recent research to improve survival rate in colon cancer patients, promote liver health, and even help prevent clogged arteries.
New research from the American Heart Association shows that drinking coffee decreases overall death risk and increases life span.
The study followed over 200,00 people for up to 30 years, and researchers gathered data on diet, behavior, coffee habits, and more.
As written in the study abstract:
[pullquote align=”full” cite=”” link=”” color=”#228B22″ class=”” size=”17″]“Compared to non-drinkers, coffee consumption one to five cups/d was associated with lower risk of mortality, while coffee consumption more than five cups/d was not associated with risk of mortality.”[/pullquote]Dr. Joseph Mercola, a leading health expert and physician believes that there is a significant connection between coffee and the health benefits found in this study. “While the study doesn’t prove coffee is the reason for the health benefits seen in the study, the association is strong,” Mercola said. “There are more than 1,000 different chemicals in coffee, and researchers are only beginning to tease out how the synergy between them might benefit your health.”
Dr. Mercola also recommends the following when selecting coffee beans: “Coffee beans are one of the most heavily pesticide-sprayed crops. So, you should select only coffee beans that are certified organic.”
The study showing that coffee decreases overall death risk was published in the American Heart Association’s journal Circulation.
