Kellogg’s cereal company is finally banning artificial ingredients, joining competitor General Mills, who also recently ditched these ingredients.
This move comes after a wave of big food companies like Taco Bell, Panera Bread, and Nestlé also decided to remove artificial ingredients.
The 109-year old company, who has been a household name for years announced that they will be getting rid of artificial ingredients by the end of the year 2018.
The company said that 75 percent of its cereals sold in America were free of artificial colors and more than half without artificial flavors.
Generals Mills made a similar promise recently, stating that they would eliminate artificial ingredients in 90 percent of their cereals.
Sales at both major cereal companies have shrunk recently due to consumers’ preferences for healthier foods with real ingredients.
While this move to get rid of artificial ingredients and colors does not make Kellogg’s products healthy, it is a step in the right direction.
